How do you feel about non-original parts?

Main Post:

Recently I've had to replace a few parts in my washer and dishwasher.

My experience has been that for any given part, I have a choice between:

  • A cheap compatible replacement on Amazon that can be at my place the next day,
  • Ordering the part from the appliance manufacturer's website, which will take a week or more to get to my place,
  • Driving 30 minutes to the nearest appliance parts store to buy a genuine original manufacturer's replacement part.

For the dishwasher I bought the original stuff because I'm a bit paranoid about the copycat manufacturers using subpar plastics that may or may not kill me via my plates. For the washer I bought a copypcat part that is not in contact with the water and has worked just fine.

How do you guys feel about this? When is it worth the hassle to try to get original manufacturer's parts?

Top Comment: This was a homeowner asking about parts they would install themselves And where obtaining the oem version is slow and difficult
